Hiring activity increased in June: Indeed

Job postings were 35.6% higher than 1 February 2020.

Hiring activity in Singapore further strengthened in June, with job postings 35.6% higher than in 1 February last year, data from job site Indeed showed.

The job site said in June alone, job postings rose 5.5%.

"The June figures show a sustained recovery in the Singaporean job market across all sectors," Indeed APAC economist Callam Pickering said. "The fact that we continue seeing strong demand for HR professionals is another sign of the market's strength."

Job postings in every occupation category were higher than pre-pandemic levels, led by postings in production jobs where postings are 90% higher than in 1 February 2020.

Transportation jobs, as well as installation and maintenance jobs, were also higher by 69% and 66%, respectively, in the same period, it said. Whilst occupation in food and beverage, engineering, construction, and management fluctuated around the national average of 35.6%.

Postings for the human resources category was 31.4% higher than in February last year, slightly below the national average, “but throughout the year, the two have moved in lock-step.”

“Strong hiring activity is typically a leading indicator for future employment growth. It means that businesses are reasonably optimistic about their prospects and confident in Singapore's broader economic recovery,” Indeed said.

Job postings featuring keywords such as “work from home” in the job description peaked at 6.9% of the postings, higher than the peak in April and four times higher than pre-pandemic level.

It said that the ability to work remotely is attractive to candidates, adding that job seekers are “likely to continue valuing the ability to work from home, even as the Singapore economy recovers.”

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
