Lasting Power of Attorney Online: family protected by an LPA registered with OPG in Singapore

Lasting Power of Attorney Online Form

This page provides our Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) online submission service.

Most people can apply for an LPA online through the Office of the Public Guardian Online (OPGO). First, complete the prescribed LPA Form 1 on OPGO. Then book an appointment with Loh Eben Ong LLP for our lawyer to act as your Certificate Issuer (terms apply).

To check our current fees and obtain an estimate, please use our LPA Fee Calculator.

If you are ready to proceed, please book an appointment. Some donors cannot use OPGO and need a hardcopy LPA in exceptional circumstances. If you also need our help to complete the form (Option 3 only), please use the hardcopy option in the form below.

What the Lasting Power of Attorney service does

An LPA lets you, the donor, appoint one or more donees to act for you if you later lose mental capacity. Therefore, our Lasting Power of Attorney service pairs your OPGO submission with a certificate issuer appointment at our office.

  • Personal welfare. Your donee may decide where you live and may consent to medical treatment.
  • Property and affairs. Your donee may operate your bank accounts, pay your bills and manage your investments.
  • Both. Most donors give both powers, and many donors name a replacement donee as well.

How the Lasting Power of Attorney process works

  1. First, complete the prescribed LPA Form 1 in the OPGO portal with Singpass.
  2. Second, submit the form on this page so that you know what mode is required.
  3. Third, book the certificate issuer appointment, and attend our office in person.
  4. Finally, when you attend at our office, we certify it, and OPG then processes the registration.

Moreover, OPG applies an objection period after registration, so please allow time before you rely on the LPA.

Who can make an LPA

You must be at least twenty-one years old, and you must have mental capacity when you make the LPA. In addition, you must attend the appointment in Singapore, because the certificate issuer must see you in person. However, some donors cannot use OPGO, and they need a hardcopy LPA instead. Consequently, our form offers a hardcopy option, and we can complete the hardcopy Form 1 for you under Option 3.

Lasting Power of Attorney fees

Please check our Lasting Power of Attorney quote for our certificate issuer fees, for interpretation add-ons and for the OPG application fee. Furthermore, the OPG fee remains subject to the prevailing charges and waivers of that office.

Lasting Power of Attorney Online: frequently asked questions

Who can act as my certificate issuer?

A practising Singapore lawyer, an accredited medical practitioner or a registered psychiatrist may certify an LPA. Our lawyer acts as certificate issuer for donors who attend our office.

Can I make a Lasting Power of Attorney Online from overseas?

You may complete the OPGO form from overseas. Nevertheless, you must return to Singapore for the certificate issuer appointment.

What is the difference between an LPA and a deputyship?

You make an LPA while you still have capacity. In contrast, the court appoints a deputy after capacity has gone, and our Deputy MCA Online page explains that route.

Can I change or revoke my LPA later?

Yes. You may revoke an LPA while you still have capacity, and you may then make a fresh one. Therefore, please review your LPA whenever your family circumstances change.

Do I still need a will?

Yes. An LPA works while you are alive but incapacitated, whereas a will takes effect on death. In addition, you may read about our Singapore wills service.
