Please note that Apostille is to be collected by the client from SAL office. Our charges follow the statutory scale, so you know the cost before you attend. For example, witnessing one signature on one document costs S$40 plus S$75 Notarial Certificate and S$87.20 SAL Apostille ($80+GST). Similarly, a certified true copy of a single page costs S$10, plus S$75 Notarial Certificate and S$87.20 Apostille fee. e-Apostille & e-Notarisation in Singapore

The default mode is still hardcoopy or physical Apostille, If required, Loh Eben Ong LLP can assist in the Singapore Academy of Law’s (SAL) e-Apostille for Notarised Documents Programme. This means your notarised documents can now be authenticated digitally — no need to collect a physical Apostille certificate from SAL’s office (subject to conditions).

With e-Notarisation, your Notary Public uploads the notarised document to the SAL Legalisation Portal, which issues an e-Notarial Certificate (e-NC) and an e-Apostille electronically. You and your overseas recipient receive access via a secure email link.

How e-Apostille Works for Notarised Documents

Step 1: Confirm Recipient Acceptance

Firstly, check with your overseas recipient whether they will accept the e-Apostille for the intended purpose.

Step 2: Book & Attend Appointment

Next, book your Notary Public appointment online. Then attend our office with your documents for notarisation.

Step 3: Notarisation

Afterwards, our Notary Public notarises your documents and uploads them to the SAL Legalisation Portal for e-Apostille issuance.

Step 4: Receive e-NC by Email

Subsequently, you receive an email with a secure link to your e-Notarial Certificate, e-Apostille and notarised document.

Step 5: Access via OTP

Then click the link, enter your email and receive a 6-digit OTP to access and download your authenticated documents.

Step 6: Forward to Overseas Recipient

Finally, share the verification link with your overseas recipient, so that they can verify the documents online through the SAL portal.

Since 16 September 2021, all notarised documents in Singapore must include an Apostille for validity overseas. The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) is the sole competent authority for issuing Apostilles in Singapore.

Notary Public Singapore: Frequently Asked Questions

The e-Apostille is a digital Apostille issued through the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) Legalisation Portal. Instead of receiving a physical Apostille certificate, your notarised documents are authenticated electronically, and both you and your overseas recipient receive a secure link to access and verify the documents online. The e-Apostille has the same legal effect as a physical Apostille. It is available for all notarised documents where the overseas recipient has agreed to accept the e-Apostille.

Both have the same legal effect and cost the same ($80 + GST per certificate, payable to SAL). The e-Apostille is delivered digitally via the SAL Legalisation Portal, while the physical Apostille is a certificate collected from SAL’s office. The overseas recipient must agree to accept the e-Apostille before this option is chosen. If the recipient does not accept the e-Apostille, a physical Apostille will be issued instead.

Notary Public fees in Singapore are prescribed by law. The cost depends on the type of notarisation (certified true copy or witnessing) and the number of documents. The Apostille fee (physical or e-Apostille) is $80 + GST per certificate, payable to SAL. Yes. With effect from 16 September 2021, an Apostille is mandatory for all notarised documents in Singapore. You cannot opt out of the Apostille when obtaining notarisation. The Apostille (physical or e-Apostille) is issued by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL), which is the sole competent authority for Apostille services in Singapore.

Not always. If you have a Singapore government document (such as a birth certificate, ACRA business profile, or educational certificate from a recognised institution) and the overseas recipient requires only an Apostille without notarisation, you can apply directly to SAL for an Apostille at $10 + GST ($10.70) per document. The overseas recipient receives an email with a link to the SAL verification page. They enter the e-Notarial Certificate number and email address, receive a 6-digit OTP by email, and access the authenticated documents. A valid e-Notarial Certificate displays three verification check marks. The recipient can view the e-NC, e-Apostille, and underlying document separately. A PDF download is available for reference.

A Notary Public in Singapore is a practising lawyer whom the Senate of the Singapore Academy of Law appoints under the Notaries Public Act. Consequently, the notary may attest signatures, certify true copies, administer oaths for overseas use and issue a Notarial Certificate. However, a notary acts mainly for documents that leave Singapore. Therefore, if your document stays here, our Commissioner for Oaths service usually applies instead.

Only an appointed Notary Public may notarise a document in Singapore, and the Singapore Academy of Law keeps the official directory of appointees. Moreover, the notary must see you sign in person and must check your original identity document. Accordingly, neither a company secretary nor an ordinary solicitor can perform a notarial act. Notary fees follow the First Schedule to the Notaries Public Rules, so every firm charges the same statutory rate. For instance, witnessing one signature costs S$40 for the Notarial Certificate, while a certified true copy of a single page costs S$10. In addition, the mandatory SAL Apostille costs S$87.20 (S$80 plus 9% GST). Therefore, a witnessed document usually totals S$202.20, and a single-page certified true copy totals S$172.20. Yes. We examine the original, certify the copy and bind it to a Notarial Certificate. Furthermore, if the overseas recipient agrees, we can bundle several certified true copies under one Notarial Certificate, which reduces the total cost. Nevertheless, witnessing cannot be bundled, because each signed document needs its own certificate.

Often yes, subject to appointment availability. We notarise during your attendance, so you leave with the notarised document and the Notarial Certificate. However, the SAL Apostille adds time: the e-Apostille arrives by email quickly, whereas a physical Apostille takes one to two business days. Therefore, please book early if your courier deadline is tight.

Please bring your original NRIC, FIN card or passport, together with the unsigned document and every original that you want certified. In addition, companies should bring the ACRA business profile, the board resolution and the signatory’s identity document. Yes, although the receiving authority may also require a translation. Accordingly, we certify the document as presented, and we can certify a translator’s declaration separately. However, we cannot verify the accuracy of a translation ourselves. Therefore, please ask the overseas recipient what form of translation it accepts before your appointment.

Not entirely. Singapore notarisation still requires you to appear before the notary in person, because the notary must verify your identity and witness your signature. Nevertheless, you can start the process remotely through our Singapore Notary Public online submission, and the e-Apostille then travels to your recipient digitally. Alternatively, if you cannot travel, sign before a notary in your own country and ask about legalisation there.
