What is Singapore probate online?

It is our online intake for estate matters. You complete the probate form on this page, our probate lawyers review what you have sent, and you then book an appointment to sign the court documents. If you would rather we look at the papers first, you can upload your probate documents instead.

Do I need a Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration?

Where the deceased left a valid will naming an executor, the executor applies for a Grant of Probate. Where the deceased died intestate, meaning without a valid will, the court appoints an administrator under a Grant of Letters of Administration. Can a foreign grant of probate be used in Singapore?

Not on its own. A grant issued by a foreign court has no automatic effect here, and banks, insurers and the land registry will not act on it alone. If a court in a Commonwealth country or Hong Kong issued the grant, you apply to reseal the foreign grant in Singapore. The court then issues a Memorandum of Resealing, and the grant takes effect as though a Singapore court had granted it.

What documents do you need to start a probate application?

That depends on the deceased’s domicile and on whether they left a valid will. The usual starting documents are the death certificate, the last will and any codicil, and identity documents for the deceased and the applicant. Why does the deceased’s domicile matter?

Domicile is the country a person treats as their permanent home, which is not necessarily their nationality or the place where they died, and it decides which grant of representation the estate needs. How much does probate cost in Singapore?

Fees are not fixed, because every estate differs in complexity. Submit our probate quote and we will reply with an estimate, or read probate fees and how to engage us.

I am overseas. How do I sign the probate documents?

If you sign probate court documents outside Singapore, you must sign them before a Singapore Consular Officer at a Singapore overseas mission, or before a Notary Public practising in the country where you are staying. After that, courier the signed originals to us for filing. Our guide to signing probate documents overseas includes specimens.

Is the original will always needed?

The court expects the original will, but you can still apply if the original has gone missing. See applying for probate when the original will is lost.

What happens after the grant is issued?

The personal representative then collects the assets, settles the debts and distributes the estate. Our guide for post probate grant procedures sets out what follows.

Questions about Singapore probate online

Can I apply for probate online in Singapore?

You can send your details to our firm using this page. We then review the estate and advise on the application and signing requirements. The Singapore Courts also have a separate Probate eService for eligible self-represented applicants. This page is our firm’s submission form.

Should I request a quote or complete this form?

For an estimate of fees, use our probate quote form first. Complete this online form when you wish to engage the firm and can provide the estate particulars. If you need advice before deciding, book a consultation; consultation fees apply.

Do I need probate or Letters of Administration?

A named executor usually applies for a Grant of Probate where there is a valid will. Letters of Administration usually applies where there is no valid will. If a will exists but no executor can act, tell us so we can assess the correct application. Read our Singapore probate service guide.

Can I save the form and return later?

Yes. Select Save and Continue Later and follow the instructions to obtain your resume link. You can then return to finish the form. Saving a form is separate from submitting the completed details.

What if some documents are missing?

Send the information available and identify the missing documents in your message. For example, tell us if the original will cannot be found. We will explain what else is needed before the matter can proceed. Please do not assume that a copy will always be sufficient.

Can I submit details from overseas?

Yes. You or your foreign lawyer may send the estate details online. Tell us where the deceased was domiciled and where the applicant is based. Before arranging overseas signing, please obtain our instructions on the documents and witnessing requirements.

Can a foreign grant be resealed in Singapore?

Some foreign grants qualify for resealing in Singapore. Send the complete grant and details of the issuing court or authority so we can assess eligibility. A foreign grant does not automatically become a Singapore grant when you upload it. See our resealing documents guide.

How long will the application take?

The timing depends on the documents, the estate and the court’s requirements. Missing information, overseas evidence or questions about the will can add time. We can discuss the likely stages after reviewing your papers; an online submission does not guarantee a completion date.

Does the grant include collecting and distributing the estate?

Obtaining the grant and administering the assets are separate stages. The personal representative must deal with the assets, debts and distribution. Please check the agreed scope and fees before asking the firm to undertake further work. Our post-grant guide explains the next stage.

Does the firm handle Muslim or contested estates?

This service is for non-contentious, non-Muslim estates. We do not undertake Muslim estate applications. If there is a dispute, please tell us at the outset so we can confirm whether we can assist.
