What a certified true copy by a lawyer is
Our lawyer fee for CTC pays for a simple but important step. A certified true copy is a photocopy that a practising lawyer compares against the original and then endorses as a true copy. Consequently, the receiving institution can rely on the copy without keeping your original document.

When a lawyer fee for CTC is enough, and when it is not
Singapore institutions, for example banks, insurers, schools and government agencies, usually accept a certified true copy by a lawyer. In contrast, an overseas authority or embassy normally wants a Notary Public to certify the copy, and it also wants an apostille from the Singapore Academy of Law. Example 5: 1 certified true copy of the bio-data page of your passport, with us making 1 colour photocopy for you. Calculation: 1 CTC × $20.00 + 1 colour copy × $1.00 = $21.00

Can any lawyer certify a true copy?
A practising Singapore advocate and solicitor may certify a true copy. Nevertheless, some foreign authorities insist on a Notary Public instead.
Do you need the original document?
Yes. We must compare the copy against the original. Therefore, please bring the original to the appointment.
Is the lawyer fee for CTC charged per page or per document?
We charge per certified copy, and we then add S$5 for each additional page in the same document. For example, a five-page bank statement costs S$20 plus four additional pages at S$5, so the lawyer fee for CTC comes to S$40.
Can you certify a copy of a copy?
No. A lawyer certifies a copy against the original only, because otherwise the certification would mean nothing.
How long does the appointment take?
Most appointments take about ten to fifteen minutes, and the lawyer fee for CTC does not change with the waiting time. However, large bundles take longer, so please tell us the page count in advance.
Do you certify translations?
