What the lost deed poll fee covers
Our lost deed poll fee has two parts. First, a search fee pays for retrieving the file from our archive. Second, a certification fee pays for the certified true copy itself. Therefore, the total depends on the age of the deed poll and on how many certified sets you need.

Consequently, a simple lawyer certification costs far less than a notarised and apostilled copy. However, if an overseas authority will receive the document, you will usually need the notarised version.
When you need a certified true copy of a deed poll
- ICA asks for proof of a former name when you renew an NRIC or a passport.
- A bank, an insurer or the CPF Board asks for evidence of the change of name.
- An overseas university, employer or embassy asks for a legalised copy.
- A probate or property matter needs to link an old name to a current name.

If no copy remains in our archive
We do not keep the originals, and we do not warrant that a copy survives. Nevertheless, you still have options. For example, you may execute a fresh deed poll that recites the earlier change of name, and our Deed Poll Online service can prepare it. Alternatively, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority may already hold a record of your former name.

No. We can only retrieve deed polls that Loh Eben Ong LLP prepared. Therefore, if another firm acted, please approach that firm.
Is the search fee refundable if nothing is found?
The search fee pays for the work of searching, so it remains payable. However, you then pay no certification fee.
How long does the search take?
Most searches finish within three to five working days. Older files may take longer, because they sit in offsite storage.
Do I need a notarised copy or a lawyer’s copy?
A lawyer’s certified true copy suffices for most Singapore institutions. In contrast, overseas authorities usually require a notarial certificate and an apostille. Please read our notary public fee guide for those charges.
Can someone collect the copy for me?
Yes, provided you authorise that person in writing, and provided we can verify the identity of both of you.
